Strange that you can sit side by side and only one computer has problems. I would still try to change the wireless channel on the router. What brand of router do you have?

I am fortunate, one of my neighbors has an unsecure wireless router. When I have wireless problems, I can try to connect to their router to help determine if my laptop wireless hardware / software is failing or my router is failing.

Is the laptop that is having problems further away from the router than the other computers connecting wirelessly? If you press JAWS + F11, does it it indicate that you are connected? My guess is that you are getting interference. Perhaps you have neighbors that have a router that is effecting throughput on your connection. You can log onto your router and configure it to use a different channel. Channels 1 through 11 are available. Most people leave the default channel set, therefore it can get pretty crowded. Just try any of the other channels. You will not need to change anything on any of the computers.

There are other things like some cordless phones or microwaves that use the same 2.4 GHz frequency and cause interference as well. Try to keep these devices some distance away from the equipment.

Subject: [Blind-Computing] Internet Connection

Hi

We have five pc's connected to a network here and are having trouble with one laptop in particular not always connecting. It is always erly evening and will eventually connect if we persist but we may have to wait hor an hour or more. the laptop shows that it is connected and that signal strength is good but when we try to connect we get that normal screen about unable to connect to the internet.

It will work fine all day and we have not messed around with any settings as far as we know, as i am typing this it will not connect whilst two other pc's and mine are all connected.

Any ideas what we can try? It seems so odd hthat it works fine for most of the time except for the early evening hours, especially when all the other pc's are just connecting fine.

Appreciate any advice.

graham
