I used to have the same problem. I couldn't run a System Restore correct.
The reason was because I didn't have XP configured correctly. You might
want to go on the home website and it should be there. Until you that your
going to drive yourself crazy.

Hello listers,
Yesterday I did a system restore on my laptop. I waited untill the system
restore dialog telling me that the restore had been successfull came up.
It
never did show up. So then i went in to narrator and my desktop. I
pressed F1 for the help dialog nothing happened This morning I tried going
to system
tools entering on it and then system restore. Again nothing. I am
running windows XP pro and jaws 7. Can some one please help? Thanks
