when the winamp main window has focus press Control+p to bring up the
preferences window.
On the tree view locate General and under General there is File types.
Press tab untel you hear All, Audio only, Video only, press space bar on
the one you want and press TAB again to move to the close button and
press enter.
so tabbing to audio only and pressing space bar should make winamp the
default player for mp3s and all other audio files.
