What happens if you hit the windows key + M key combo? That would generally take you to the desktop, unless jaws is trying to do something like a remote machine access thing, but that would also depend on your versions of jaws fwiw.
However, on my windows XP machines, I sometimes have to specifically hit windows key + M for the desktop, or windows key + B for the system tray, or just the windows key twice to access the start menu and then close it again, before tabbing around until I know iI'm actually focused on my desktop since I think 1 or 2 of the startup applications might sort of be taking focus, but not in a 'real' window as such.
