Every time I tried to run it it just came up with an error and refused to
open, is there an XML file that can be editted in place of the properties?

Actually, it works fine on Vista, I'm using it. You have to edit the
properties and check Compatibility Mode, that solves its problems. I
didn't
know this until recently either.
