It sounds like you did it correctly to me. I normally hit the applications 
key on a file and pick open with. Then I select the program required and tab 
to the check box to always use the selected program. This has always worked 
for me in the past.

I went ahead and installed the Power Point program this morning and even
after doing so I am still getting the message below.

This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this
action. Create an association in the Folder
Options control panel.

I have checked in control panel/folder options and all the .pps files are
associated with the Power Point program to open them and yet I'm still
getting the message.  Is their something I have missed along the way?  I did
reboot the computer after installing the program.  All help will be greatly
appreciated.  Thanks much, take care.
