I hear Microsoft won't allow you to install Windows on a bootable USB device.

greetings to all

i want to ask two things.
first is about DVD writer. i have been changed my laptop's DVD writer
for many times but it work for  a very short time.
i want to ask about  portable DVD writer option. how is it and which
company DVD writer is good?

and second querey is about instaling Vista or XP via pen drive.
. i have listened many time that we can instal via pen drive by making
it bootable but i could not  find the way to do so.
so is it possible and how?
