Subject: [Blind-Computing] XP Disk Clean Up
I need to figure out how our older XP computer with just Office XP
Standard, Super AntiSpyWare, Avast, NVDA, Unreal Tournament and Sims 3
completely fill a whole 21 GB partition! I wanted to simply run the
Windows 7 advisor to determine if this computer might have a second chance
of life. I quickly got notices that there was no free space on drive C.
My son is unable to install his favorite game, Roller Coaster Tycoon 3. I
have been crawling to the computer in the last two days to remove viruses,
SpyWare, perform disk clean ups, disk check (fix errors on reboot), and
defragmentation. The disk is so full that NVDA and System Access both
occasionally stop speaking! I noticed that when defragmenting, several
System Access files could not be defragmented. I am not sure whether that
was because there was only 3% free space after my clean up efforts or
because they were in use.
Does anyone know any other clean up tricks? In Vista, I know how to have
it calculate folder sizes and then sort the drive by size. The clean up
utility to remove temp, log and restore files seems much easier in Vista.
The wasted space does not seem to be user documents, music or videos!
