Hi Mich, I assume you want to save the data? If not then just try and format the drive again but let's assume you have something there you want to save.
When in My Computer with the drive highlighted, press alt plus enter for properties. Press Control plus tab to get to the Tools ppage and you should land on the "error checking check Now" button. If not, tab to it and pres the spacebar. This brings up the check disk dialog. Tab a couple times and check both boxes for: Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors Let this one run for a while and it could take hours. If that doesn't fix the master file table you can try the Dos version of check disk by typing: chkdsk x: /r where you substitute the letter of the drive for x. That is: chkdsk followed by a space and the drive letter followed by a colon and another space and then slash r Notice the punctuation. If none of that helps you could try some data recovery software. starting with recuva, which I believe David has supplied a link to on the site, see the bottom of each message to this list. Beyond all that are the paid programs such as Smart Data Recovery and Recover My Files just to name two. I hope some of this helps. Hi all. I have a problem. One of my external drives when I tern it on and look in my computer it doesn't show up. When I try to go in to it it said that it has become corrupt and unreadable. I have since located the drive on my pc but when I tryed to do a check for arrors and recovery of bad sectors I am not shure if it worked since I still can't oapen it and look at it since it still says it is coruppted. I have tryed everything I can think of short of putting it in the freezer for a few hours and seeing if i can get the data off of it after. I am just wondering what elts I can do to fix this? many thanks. from Mich.
