Open up My Computer
Right click on the flash drive and select Properties.
Jaws cursor down a few lines and it will read either NTFS or FAT. Nearly all flash drives come preformatted as FAT, for compatibility with the Mac. You may notice some increase in read/write performance by reformatting it to NTFS, as long as you do not need to use it in a Mac.

Subject: [Blind-Computing] Flash Drive how to find formatting info

Hi All,

What are the steps in finding what format a flash drive is formatted in? I
am running XP Home & Jaws 10. I have looked in the properties and didn't
see anything in there. Did I overlook or miss something? All help will be
greatly appreciated. Thanks much. Take care.
Mike
