I have never used Audio Book Cutter but there is some information on
http://www.audiobookcutter.com/
There is a free and paid for version.
It is a little unclear but it appears that the main advantage of the paid
for version is that there is a facility to detect silences , perhaps
between chapters and make the splits automatically at these silences.

However you really do not need to pay for such a facility as there are
excellent free options available. For example Mp3Directcut has an extremely
easy to use pause detector. All you have to do is load the program and
select pause detection from the Special menu. Then go to the file menu and
select save split.
The other facility in the paid for version appears to be the ability to edit
Mp3 tags which is again available freely in Mp3Directcut and Mp3Tag .

In fact if you want to you can use Mp3Directcut to do the entire job of
splitting books into say 10 minute segments. The easiest way to do this
would be to use a standard cue sheet. Apply this cue sheet in Mp3Directcut
and again simply save split. I used to use this method before Booksplit
came along.

If you want a copy of the cue file I used to split books I can make this
available.

David Griffith

Subject: [Blind-Computing] File splitting software

Hello, I need a software program for splitting large audio book files into
smaller files that I can burn to CD.

I have used "book split", but for some reason, I get an error message when I
try to run it.

Sometimes. But sometimes it will open and run properly.

Anyway, is there another simple to use, free software that will allow me to
split large files into smaller more easy to use files?

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Steve.
