Are you sure it is a screen saver kicking in? It sounds more like a User Account Control (UAC) warning in Vista. This would make sense if the web site you went to wanted to update your system. Some sites just want to install an ActiveX extension into the browser. However, I think IE displays its own warning before it could get that far. I know that the JAVA updates are extremely annoying and pop up at unexpected times.

There should be a special sound made when this warning comes up and turns most of the screen dark, except for the warning message. Microsoft does not want you to ignore these messages. Most screen readers have difficulty when these messages occur. I still get some cases where JAWS is unable to read the message.

If you are not expecting that site to modify your computer, think twice before allowing it to continue! I think you can cancel what it is attempting to change by pressing Escape. When I hear that special warning sound while I am purposefully modifying my computer, I first press Alt + A for Allow or if that does not work, press Alt + C for Continue.

I assume the screen saver was enabled, but it is disabled. In the display folder, screen saver is set to, "none".

Try selecting no screen saver and see if that makes a difference. Sometimes
new versions of JAWS act differently.

My screen saver has always been enabled, but until recently I never
encountered such a problem.

Maurice,

Do you have screen savers enabled on your machine or none as FS
recommends?

Subject: [Blind-Computing] Problem With Screen Saver On The Web

I am running JAWS 10, Windows 7 and XP. Recently, at certain websites,
the
website comes up, but quickly switches to a screen saver. Usually, it is
impossible to get to the website with out exiting and re-entering. Has
anyone experience this problem, and is there something I can do to fix it?
