Marilyn,

If you are using the free version and want to do a complete
scan, you will need to do that manually. On the JAWS-users
website, David has an article that tells you how to
configure Avast to be more blind friendly. In its default
mode, you will see two references in your system tray

Subject: [Blind-Computing] about Avast-is it working?

Hi, helpers: I downloaded Avast from the jaws users list
hoprograms page
and now have 4.8 on my xp home computer. There are two
items in the system
tray. Question: what are they and does their existence in
the tray mean
Avast is doing its antivirus thing? Or do I have to go
through the context
menu and choose various items? Or do I have to manually
scan every time or
is this all automatic? I don't even know what most of the
choices mean much
less whether or not I need to choose them. I uninstalled
AVG free because
it ran for ages and slowed down everything to a quicksand
crawl. What
should I do? marilyn
