In windows XP, for example, in the control panel, there's an item for taskbar and start menu, and in that dialogue, on the taskbar page, there's an item to tell it whether or not to hide inactive icons, and you can turn that off, and then it shouldn't try to hide any icons in the notification area.

Subject: [Blind-Computing] Where did my volume control go?

I use Vista on my laptop.
Normally I can go to the system tray to adjust the volume,
but lately the volume control has been disappearing from it.
It might appear after a reboot, but then disappear again.
Does anyone have an idea of what to do with this?
Blessings,
Tom
