I do believe this worked for stopping Word from having JAWS say superscript.
I'm crossing my fingers, but I think it's been successful. Thanks so much
for the directions. Now if I can only find out how to get JAWS to quit
saying spacemarker as well. Maybe I might find the answer in some of those
autocorrect settings, but I didn't see anything like that so far. And the
verbosity settings of JAWS didn't have anything for that that I could see.

Hi Chris,

Try the steps below to stop JAWS from saying superscript.
If you don't want Word to use the superscript then you can also do the
following: (this is for Word 2003).

1. Open the tools menu with Alt-T.
2. Use the up arrow key to move to the "AutoCorrect options" menu choice
and press enter.
3. Use your tab key to move to the page tabs and then use the right arrow
key to move to the "auto format as you type" page.
4. Use the tab key to move into a list of choices.
5. Use down arrow key to move to the "ordinals with superscript" choice and
uncheck it by using the spacebar.
6. Use the tab key to move to the OK button and press spacebar.

The above is only if you want to change the way Word replaces ordinals with
the superscript attribute.
Hope this helps. Take care.

Subject: [Blind-Computing] JAWS says superscript and spacemarker in Word
2003

HI. I'm using XP, JAWS 10 and something strange is occurring in Word
2003.
To give one example, when I type the word "first" like this "1st", when I
have JAWS read it back, it pronounces the following: 1 superscript st end
  superscript.

  I don't know why it's saying superscript.

Also, when I'm in the spell checker, it says spacemarker in between all
the
words in the sentence with the spelling error. I seem to recall something
about a setting that would stop spacemarker from being said while in MS
Word? I just can't recall what it was.

  Any tips? Thanks much.
