Tom,
Openbook 7 or higher allows one to scan a document directly into word,
(document 1), by going in the menu of document 1 and entering, " scan using
openbook". I had not use the feature in quite a while, but I finally figure
it out. Thanks!
Maury,

Subject: [Blind-Computing] RE. scanning using OB 7
Maury,
There may be variations on this, but this is how I do it.
Start Open Book. It will normally open in the edit mode where you can go
directly to scanning.
Open Book has it's own voice, and JAWS should quit speaking while you are
running Open Book.
So you may want to change some voice settings in OB, if you like a fast
speech rate, for example.
Place the document or book on the scanner, and tell OB to scann.
This can be as simple as pressing the space bar.
You can scan in multiple pages, pushing the space bar each time you go to
a new page, and OB will add it to the pages you've already scanned.
Then save the document.
Since you want to read it in MS Word, you can save it as a Word document,
an rtf format, or text.
OB has a default folder where it will save the document.
Then, from Word, go to Open Book, users, library, default, and you will
find the document with the name you gave it, and you can open, read and
edit it there.
You can change things like the default location where OB saves files, and
the default format. There are scanning settings you can change too, such
as orientation, two page mode, or recognizing columns (some of the ones I
change most often) You will figure this out as you learn to use the
program.
Ask more questions if you need to.
Blessings,
Tom
