Hi Dan, This works on XP and previous versions of Windows. Pick up Quickmix which allows you among other things to put a shortcut to an unmuted volume configuration in your Windows startup folder so that when that happens you can just reboot and all volume control settings return to normal. There is probably some laptop key combination you are accidentally hitting which causes the muting.
