All the necessary command for widening cells in Excel are in the Format and then column menus in Excel 2003. I personally use the auto fit selection command which makes life easy.
If you are using 2007 it may be a different matter. I do not know but you may have to press tab and shift tab a few dozen times to achieve the same result through the ribbons. Someone using 2007 may be able to help.
