Offline, I use either eSpeak - can only generate .wav files - or dspeech - which uses almost all of the voices on the computer, and can generate MP3 files, and is free.

It can be found on blind-computing programs page.

You have to pay for Text Aloud, but AT&T does have a demo page where you can select the voice you want to test and then type in a limited amount of text to have read aloud. The web address for this demo site is:
