I am not sure that the description you give of Espeak is particularly respectful for people who continue to do so much work to provide a viable free speech synthesiser for NVDA. Particularly as I believe that the creators may well read this list. Espeak, to my mind, is the best of the free speech synthesisers out there. Commercial outfits have the resources to generate different voices and the resources they have inevitably impact on the result. Espeak appears to be a work in progress and is clearly improving. The efforts of those behind it deserve our respect and assistance if we can provide it.
Espeak has increasing variants and there may be a case for changing the default voice, perhaps to Michael or Male 6.
