Hello Ken. a netbook is a perfect thing for what you want. It can still be purchased with windows xp pre installed which is a big plus. They usually come with a 1 gig or bigger processor and one gig of ram. it can usually be updated also. The keys are smaller than that of a laptop but think they have models closer to the laptop style. you can of course install jfw or window eyes whichever you prefer. You can even get a USB keyboard for it. I have a friend who has one that rolls up even. If you have any more questions feel free to email me off list at [email protected]. It is my other email address. I would also recommend that you go into a store and look at netbooks to get a better feel. You can even start up narrator like I did and get some kind of a better feel for it.

Subject: [Blind-Computing] Laptops versis notebooks

Hello everyone,

My wife and I really need to get something we can use on the road. Need something that has a good speech program for me, or something that I can put JAWS on. Also need something that will hook up to the internet via phone modem or Wi-Fi. A pretty good sized hard drive is kind of important as well as a couple of gigs of ram.

I'm wondering what might be the best, a laptop or a notebook. I don't know anything about notebooks. What is the interface; keyboard or touch screen? Any thoughts you might have will help me out a lot.

Thanks everyone. I love this forum, you have helped me so much in the past with questions I've had. I've also been really happy when I've been able to help someone out with a question. This is a great family to be a part of.

Ken
