Hi Doug, The below steps are for opening a .wmv file. Substitute midi for wmv or the letter " M " for the letter " W ". Press the letter " M " until you land on the midi file ext. 1. Go to My Computer -> Tools -> Folder Options 2. Shift-Tab to the General Tab, and move right to the File Types Tab 3. Tab once, hit a "W" on your keyboard to jump down in the list to find the WMV entry. 4. Tab to get to the Change button which will open a list of programs, find Windows Media Player, Tab to check the box for Always use this program and click Ok. You can also open the " new field " and addingthe the .midi extension to your list and then choosing a program to open it. You can accomplish the same thing by navigating to the actual file, hold your left-shift key while right-clicking the file to select Open With and choose Windows Media Player in the same manner as Step 4 above.
If you do in fact have windows media player installed, then you might need to check if that file extension doesn't maybe have an extra space at the end or something which is stopping windows from recognising it and knowing what to do with it. Hope this helps a little. Take care. I have midi files I want to open with my midi sequencer (should be simple eh)?? Not!!!!!!! The open with dialog box gives me a abbreviated list of programs, among which is Not the one I want. This is probably very basic stuff, but could someone tell me how I can use this dialog box. Boy!!!!! My next computer's definitely going to be a Mac!! I've been trying for three days to get this midi interface working. at least with a mac, I've read you just plug things therein and they work! What a blessing that would be. Sorry for the rant. My thanks in advance. Growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional!
