Thought I'd query the group following a discussion with a
sales rep @ Tiger Direct last evening. I had to order a new
hard drive after the one I had yesterday shorted out and
burned when trying to make a backup copy of it (that's
another story) Anyway, after I ordered my new u s b external
adapter to plug hard drives into and a new 750 GB Western
Digital drive, the rep asked me if I would be interested in
some new program (can't remember the name) that did
everything to enhance your new hard drive, handle viruses,
spy ware, etc, etc. etc.... He asked what I used to set up
my hard drives and protect my system. I explained I used
diskpart to set up partitions and image for windows to move
partitions around and back up hard drives. I also told him I
had a lynksys router and used Microsoft's MSE program. After
listening to him for about 5 minutes trying to sell me this
new program he almost had me believing I had virtually no
protection. So my question is this, I've been using MSE for
about two months now on my three networked computers in the
house. I have also successfully installed and used two new
750 GB Western Digital hard drives with no problems. I have
not installed all this utility software or upgraded my BIOS
to support them. I've had no viruses or spy ware detected
when MSE scans my machine. I also remember someone on this
list submitted an article stating MSE had performed pretty
well in tests. Oh yes, the other thing this guy said was the
reason Microsoft offered MSE free was to get you to buy
their paid version of Window's live one cares. I was under
the impression MSE replace the program. Anyway any thoughts
or comments from anyone?

thanks
Al
