I know years ago when I started using JAWS I was sighted. I
had an instructor recommend to me to just spend a bit of
time each day getting used to it with the monitor off. I
found this helpful because the program does not make sense,
or at least it didn't to me, trying to use it from a sighted
perspective. Just my experience and two cents.

Starting off, just make them not use the physical mouse at
all, so they'll
get used to the idea of using only the keyboard as such -
even if using it
control the jaws/mouse cursor.
