Have you tried using the "last known good configuration" option
under windows advanced options?

Hi all,
I have HP laptop with windows xp home. It is not booting up even
in safe
mode since yesterday.
There is a message on the screen saying: Starting Window XP.
However its
hanging there don't start the win XP.
I have allots of files, emails and program in this laptop. How
do I fix
this problem?
