Dear Friends,
Well, I have had a Gateway full tower computer that I purchased in February of 1999. It is then really then an 1998 machine and indeed still running Windows 98 First Edition! It came with a 6 & ½ GB hard Drive, but after a couple of years, I added a 30 GB hard Drive.

It is still working perfectly!
LOL!

Although I do not use it very much any more as I have on the same desk my Dell XP-Home with a 80 GB Drive and two (2) external Seagate T-Drives connected that I purchased in 2007!

But inbetween these two purchases, I had a Dell full tower that I purchased in 2004 that only lasted three years!
The Hard Disk died, and the Mother board was also corrupted!

Then One never really knows what the Life expectancy of a computer might be!

But surely always make sure the fans are working.
A simple way to do this is either listen for them, or put your hand in the front of your computer and feel for the air which is so slightly being sucked into the case by the fans.
There are usually more than one fan.

With Best Regards,
Alan

Keep things backed up. Ten years is a long time for hard drives to be
spinning. Keep an eye out for longer boot times, longer times accessing
files and occasional file access errors.

Believe it or not, I have had my computer for 10 years or more. What
are some signs that I need to
be looking for when it finally decides to bite the dust? In case you
are wondering, it is a Compact
with Windows XPHome.

Thanks,
Donnie
