Thank you very much for this helpful info.  This will give me what I need as 
far as making a rough guess as to how many songs I could put on a 45 minute

Here are a few tidbits that might prove helpful.

Generally speaking 1MB equals to 1 minute of music encoded at 128 Kbps, ...

1 minute of DVD-quality video with sound, 11 MB, 11000 KB or 11000000 bytes
