Hi Doug, If you don't want to be bothered by this annoying and mostly useless component of Windows, do the following: 1. Go to the control panel 2. Select Administrative tools, and hit enter. 3. Hit S, until you come to services, and hit enter to open it. 4. When this opens,you will be in a tree-view, tab once to get into the list view. 5. Again, hit the S, until you come to security center, and hit enter to open it's properties. 6. Next, tab until you come to startup type, and down arrow to manual. 7. Tab until you come to the apply, and hit enter, to apply the changes, and then once more to close the properties. You are done. What you have just done is set the security center to a manual state so it can be used when needed, along with cutting down on what loads when your computer boots. The main purpose of this service is to notify you if you don't have any security software installed or running. It is one of the first things that I disable when setting up an XP machine.
