Hi, I'm confused about the topic but In windows xp, if you want to add or remove a component, there is an option in the add/remove thing in the control panel. If you chose that option, you have to insert your windows xp disc. I can't speak for newer versions of windows.

When you choose this option, it will take you to a dialogue in the Add/Remove programs applet. In this applet, you can remove components of the operating system such as Windows Media Player, faxing, internet tools etc. This particular option, can be tricky to navigate, and should be used with the understanding that removing components of the operating system may result in unexpected side effects, since other functions of Windows may depend on these components to operate properly. Installed programs You can free more disk space by removing programs that you do not use. Choosing this option, will take you to the Add/Remove programs applet, and that one is self-explanatory. This option is a good opportunity for users to clean up programs that are not used, and free up more disk space, keeping the computer in good working order. System Restore You can free more disk space by removing all but the most recent restore point. This option, does what it says, and should be performed from time-to-time, since these extra restore points use up disk space, and with time will bog down a system.
