I think the others are correct in that you would most likely need to try IE 7+.

FWIW, pretty sure it's due to something related to the target market for the mobile site, since the request/response headers for the web server communications/web pages could be slightly different since they assume you'd be accessing the site from a mobile/cellphone web browser, and that could be 'bothering' IE6 since it's a bit older, but anyway...
