HI Lou;

Does the computer only lose time if it has been turned off and then
restarted? If so the battery in the motherboard probably needs to be
replaced. Yes, the computer will do some very strange things if the clock
and calendar are not correct. It won't update correctly because of
something that is called certificates. I ran into this same problem
recently trying to work on a computer. I kept getting an error message and
when I Googled the error code, 1 of the fixes was the time / date being
incorrect. I replaced the motherboard battery, reset the calendar, time ,
and everything began to work properly. I am not saying this is the fix for
your husbands problem but, it is easy enough to check. Hope this helps.
Take care.
Mike

Hi all, hope someone here can help. My husband's computer is not holding the
correct time and we would like to fix the problem ourselves. What, if
anything, can we do to remedy this problem?

Also, would this cause the computer to do strange things? I have checked for
viruses, defragged and did all the things I can think of to help but it
still runs slow at times. I don't know if this is because the updating is
going on at the wrong time and slows the other things down. He mostly uses
his computer for playing games.

He has an hp computer running xp sp3.

Thank you all for the help.
