The only thing I have done on my one windows 7 machine is to specify folder paths in the file name entry field instead of bothering looking for specific folders in that dialogue - have/can do it by tabbing around a bit, but, for example, if knew flash drive was F: drive, would type in document name as:
F:\docs\document1.docx

Also, in order to bring up this dialogue everytime, you should still be able to use Ctrl + Shift + S - as in save as instead of just save - Ctrl + S.
