Hello,

Guide is not a new program, it is however a new acquisition by Dolphin

The Veterans Affairs Blind rehabilitation centers and Visual Impaired Support
Team Coordinators (VISTC) have been issuing Guide for around the last three
years or so.

It was made by a company from England and first offered in the U.S. by the
company, Electronic Vision Access Solutions (EVAS).

I am not sure what Dolphin is charging for Guide, but the V.A. was paying
around 750.00 per license.

Guide is a real good program for what it is meant for. Many older or disabled
Veterans do not want to learn how to use a computer, but they want to be able
to write and read email from their family and friends.

Guide provides access to email, internet access and word processing in a menu
type structure, very similar to the start menu in Windows XP.

Each menu option can be spoken and each option usually takes only one or two
choices to get to where you want to be such as composing email or reading email.

From a tech support point of view, Guide is a lot easier to support than
either ZoomText or Jaws. ZoomText is the magnifier of choice for V.A. supported
Veterans and Jaws is the screen reader of choice.

HTH,

TJ

  Hi, everyone,

I just learned about a new screen reader on another list. It's called guide.
I'm tempted to download it and try it out but is it free software like NVDA is?
Just wondering.

  Rosemarie
