Hello, I think I can address some of your questions. The screenreader for the mac is called voiceover and Safari is the web brouser for the mac. Yes voiceover is directly built into the mac. When you get a mac, it will automatically guide you through the set-up process with voiceover. So you don't have to install a screenreader to make your computer talk. Also, you can run windows on the mac so you can use your windows programs while you learn the mac. If you have an apple store or any place that sells computers like best buy, ask to look at the apple and hit command f5, voiceover will come on right away! We have a mac blind users group that specifically deals with issues pertaining to all things apple like voiceover. I have found them a great source for when I got my first apple macbook pro. Here is the group's site:
http://groups.google.com/group/macvisionaries?hl=en
If you require more info about the mac, I have several links, just e-mail me if you would like them! I am afraid, I don't know about Orca! I know for windows you can use: jaws, window Eyes, NVDA (free), thunder, system access to go, and I think I am forgeting one! The last two are free and as you may no, the others cost an arm and a leg. Voiceover comes free with the mac even when you upgrade to a higher opperating system. Hope that helps. Heather

Subject: [Blind-Computing] MAC and Safari

Hi All:

I would like to know the screen readers that support on MAC and Safari.
I heard that Voice Over comes in-built with MAC, but not sure.

I would also like to know whether Orca supports any other Operating
System(s) besides Linux / Vinux.

I would also like to know the different screen readers that support
with respect to different OS.

Thanks and regards,
Silpa.
