can you give me this step guide to enable me to do this in xp?
and how do i get the desktop to stay where it is
i keep getting no window is active message and i want to leave the desktop
permanently showing when i click on desktop

try the following;
1, desktop;
now, press ctrl+spacebar, you will hear jaws say, not selected,
2, press applications key,
up arrow and enter on personalize,
3, now tab and enter on, change desktop icons link;
4, now you can use your right arrow and press spacebar on the items you
wish to have appear on your desktop,
example;
computer, users files, network, recycle bin, and, control panel,
once you have checked the items, then tab and enter on,
okay button, then, alt+f4, to close the personalize menu.
