Hi Yvonne,
Go to Tools alt t, and type letter A for Auto Correct Options. There are several pages in that dialogue box and you can access by using control to switch from one to another.

Just a personal thought: You may find that you don't like the idea of all the automatic help as much as you imagine. I personally turn most of that off and then run the spellcheck etc. after I complete my document.
