Does the power switch on the external hd drive do anything other than cut the power? Wondering if it triggers some sort of shut down procedure. I have been using my drive always powered on and controlled by a surge controller panel. The surge protector I use has switches to power on the computer, monitor, printer and accessories. In the computer power I have a power strip in which I have the computer, speakers and modem. and in the accessory I have the external drive. So I cut the power to the drive when I do not need it.
