I feel it is important starting out a new month to bring to your attention the
following couple of items.

Everybody please read the footer message located at the bottom of each and
every post sent out to the list. It is brief only two lines, but it contains
all of the information you need to find answers too many questions regarding
the mailing lists housed on this domain. The help page lists all of the
addresses for subscribing ETC as well as the web pages for Blind Computing and
JAWS Users along with the archives, and much more. This past week alone almost
a half a dozen people wrote to me privately asking how to un-subscribe and
other things. Personally it is beyond me that a person can subscribe to a
mailing list and yet need help to un-subscribe. There is an audio tutorial on
the server that will walk you through the process of changing your settings in
Mailman which is the program that manages these mailing lists for me. It will
discuss changing to digest mode, going no mail and resuming normal delivery
ETC. If that is a bit over somebody's head that is some what understandable but
for the most of you I'm thinking it is well with in your ability to figure out.
If not then you can of course write to the owner address to ask either Bob,
Rick or me to change your settings for you. Just remember we do not keep track
of such things so for example if you want to go on vacation or what ever then
you need to contact us again to have your delivery turned back on. Don't write
to say you'll be away next week so reactivate my account next Saturday. You
will need to write next Saturday to have us turn it back on for you. Also use
the owner address listed on the help page, do not write to any of us directly
because if who ever you contact is away then the other two guys have no idea
you need something as the owner address goes to all of us at once.

If you are changing your internet provider and do not quite understand how to
switch your email address with Mailman then the easiest thing to do would
simply be un-subscribe your old address and subscribe with your new one. Yes we
can change that for you on the server but that is something you can do
yourselves quite easily.

There are well over 500 members on the JAWS Users List and almost 400 on Blind
Computing so as you can imagine this kind of thing could start to mount in to a
lot of background work for us and if that happens then it takes away from our
time to answer questions on the lists which I figure most of you would rather
have us do instead of getting bogged down in administrative work.

Most people don't know what they're doing and a lot of them are really good at
it.
