Try insert + A while in the message body to move your focus to the 
attachment list, then hit enter to open it up.

Hello, Janie:

When I wish to save any kind of e-mail, I put a copy on the clipboard. Then,
I go to Word, and make it a word document.

There may be other, simpler ways, but, that's how I do it.
