The adobe reader can be found on the Adobe website. There is an accessible link that you can open and you should find the Adobe reader. You won't find it in the Adobe Xpro which is used to prevent people from changing material sent to them.

Hi. In a recent message you said:
"> 3. When preferences opens you will be in a tree view and should be on the
General page, if not arrow up or down until you have General highlighted.
It is #4 of 29. Tab until you find a checkbox called enable protected
mode
at startup, uncheck it, choose yes on the warning you will get to
continue."
But that seems to be only in adobe reader? I'm running Adobe Acrobat X Pro.
That item seems not to be under general. Any idea where it might be found?

Many thanks.
Anthony Tom with a wondering mind.

Hi Mike:

Thank you for your comprehensive tutorial on what I am supposed to do. It
worked and I have a folder in my e-mail setup which has the name
"instructions folder" which is filling up.

Is there an update to Adobe Reader 10.1? And where can I look for it?

Hi Francis,

the latest version is Adobe Reader X.

You need to disable protected view first to get it to work well with
Jaws.

 Do the following:

 1. From either your desktop or start menu, press enter on Adobe. The
Adobe window is now open, press control + K, to open preferences. Another
way to get to preferences is after pressing enter on the Adobe shortcut,
press Alt + E, for the edit menu, arrow up to preferences, & press enter.

3. When preferences opens you will be in a tree view and should be on the
General page, if not arrow up or down until you have General highlighted.
It is #4 of 29. Tab until you find a checkbox called enable protected
mode
at startup, uncheck it, choose yes on the warning you will get to
continue.

You need to look at 1 more setting so, tab until you have General
highlighted again.

4. With General highlighted, press the letter I, until you have Internet
highlighted.

5. Tab to, Display PDF in browser, if this box is checked press the
spacebar
to uncheck it.

6. Tab to the okay button, press enter to close preferences & save your
changes, & press Alt + F4 to close Adobe.

If I have missed something or if there is something that should be added,
would someone please jump in & correct me?!

Hope this helps. Take care.

Mike

Several weeks ago some folks on this list were sending messages on how to
get Adobe reader to read PDF files. There was something about going to
preferences and then going to the general tab and unchecking so that
something could be accessed.

I did not save the messages and I hope someone can help me to set up the
item in the control panel as I want to read some PDF files from the
Enabling
embosser site to read some manuals.
