Margaret,

I have three of the APC units in my house for the computers
we have. We've been using the 550 model which have 8
outlets, 4 surge protected and backed by the UPS and the
other 4 just regular ones. They work well and we never even
turn our units off during thunderstorms

Subject: [Blind-Computing] UPS for New Computer

Hi All,

I want to get a new UPS to help protect the new Windows 7
machine that will be arriving soon as well as the other new
equipment and what I'll be keeping from my XP Home computer.

I re-read some old posts I'd saved and I know it's one of
those things where it is best to spend as much as one can
afford that meet the requirements that will be asked of it.
Also that one poster suggested that the surge protection is
rated at 400 joules or higher for best results. and the
higher the better. The amount of battery time and number of
outlets were also judged to be important specs. I was
thinking of APC since I saw them mentioned over and over
again and there's a plant or at least an office near here
and I'd like to support the "home team" if possible. My
tech has always bought the UPS units I've had and I was
wondering what people were using these days since I don't
recall seeing any posts on the subject lately.

Thanks,

Margaret
