Hi David,
Yes, you do, and I thought that the Easy Transfer software was awkward by
comparison.
Still, as you said, it is an option for folks. smile

Hi Rick;
Yes, your absolutely right,
And as far as I know,
You need to install software on the XP computer.
However it's an option for folks.
The copying to external drive is the easier way to complete the task.

Hi David,
I omitted that option, since it is just as easy to copy and paste.
There is a cable option with Windows Easy Transfer, but it's a special USB
cable from what I recall, they tend to be a little pricey.
I think they are called a USB bridge cable.

Hi Michael
No, you can't use a USB cable.
If you have a flash drive, or external drive, copy your files to it, and
then connect the drive to the Win7 machine, and copy them in the necessary
locations.
Also, if the computers are networked, via ethernet cable and a router, then
you can put the files in a shared folder, and transfer them over your
network.
Additionally, if you have a DropBox account, and you have it installed on
both machines, then you can put your files in your DropBox folder on one
computer, and get them from the same folder on the other machine.
If you need more help, just sing out.
HTH,
Rick Justice

Hello Listers,In order for me to transfer my files from my XP machine to my
windows 7, What kind of cord do I need? I am thinking one that has 2 USB
plugs at both ends. Is this correct? Just want to make sure.
Thanks
Michael
