Hi John.
I don't think anything has happened to microsoft security essentials..

Sounds like your shortcut on the desktop got zapped somehow.

Try running it from your start menu, if it's there, are from the "all
programs" list of programs.

BTW: windows defender is a firewall which I believe is still live and well.

Hope this helps..
Bob

Subject: [Blind-Computing] WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO MICROSOFT
SECURITYESSENTIALS

Somehow, I must have missed something. Recently, when I tried to use my
Desktop shortcut to reach Microsoft Security Essentials, I got a message
indicating that the link was no longer valid because the program had been
deleted or moved. I checked on my main C drive and there was no folder for
that program, even in the 86 folder.

Yet, something is still scanning my system regularly and there are links
indicating changing the scan schedule, full or quick scan and so on.

The only thing I can think of is that Microsoft replaced Security Essentials
with something else. It seems to be working but that does concern me a bit.

My research indicates that it has been replaced by something called Windows
Defender. Is this right?

Does anyone know anything about this program? I thought that it was just a
basic anti-virus program at one time but there seems to be anti-malware
elements and the virus definitions are being updated.

Any help would be most welcome.
