Did you try windows b as this should also be another way to get the system
tray status?

Subject: [Blind-Computing] DISCONNECTING EXTERNAL USB DEVICES, WINDOWS 7
I am using Windows 7 Professional and Jaws 13.
Up till now, with earlier versions of Windows software, when an external
device was connected to my system, I would find a "Disconnect" option in the
System Tray.
With Windows 7, that doesn't seem to be the case.
1. How can you safely remove an external USB driven device without
creating file corruption problems or other related issues?
2. Is it safe to remove or disconnect one of these devices when no
"disconnect" option appears in the System Tray?
3. If the answer to question two is no, where can I find the option
which will allow me to safely disconnect my devices?
