As in, try a different screen reader to see whether it's jaws, or windows
causing the hassles - and since NVDA is free, and somewhat smaller than jaws
to download - Non-Visual Desktop Access:
http://www.nvda-project.org/
It also makes use of a lot of the same keystrokes as jaws, for certain types
of things, which also makes it easier to have as a secondary screen reader
for jaws users.

Have you tried something like NVDA as well to make sure whether or not
the issue is with jaws, windows itself, etc.?
