I just removed AVG 9 from my xp machine. I did that first, then installed MSE for xp, all went without a hitch.

To uninstall McAfee, make sure it is turned off / exited. Whaat you can do is go into, msconfig, control + tab to start-up, uncheck the McAfee box & reboot the computer. This way you know that McAfee didn't start with Windows. Check the System Tray to be sure. Now you can uninstall it, do a disk clean-up, & defrag, reboot & install MSSE. Take care.
