I actually spent a lot of time being confused about this too, so, here's a tip:
When you select that create link or add link, or whatever it is after pressing the applications key, the link will magically appear in your clipboard where it's ready to be inserted into whatever document or Email you're using it in. I never did find anything saying this in the Dropbox instructions, and to me at least, it was far from obvious. William S.
