If you are using word have you tried pressing CTRL shift period?

I need to use a larger font size for a project I''m working on.
When I go to the numbered list of font size, and arrow down to the size I
desire, I find that it reads as my original font size.
This is the case whether I:
1. Press "enter" on the size desired
Or:
2. Tab to Okay and press enter, or hit the spacebar.
What am I doing wrong, here?
