Ok, will try using calibre, but, FWIW, on this windowsXP machine, adobe
digital editions 2.0 seems somewhat useless/unusable - nothing seems to
show/render, in terms of book content, using either jaws or PC cursor, ctrl
+ F6, etc., and if I use it to open an ePub book, it doesn't even seem to
render menu systems as such, to double check preferences, etc. either..?
Like said, will check out calibre command line syntax, etc., but, BTW, aside
from epubBud.com, another nice enough online conversion site is
online-convert.com.
That also reminds me, that with regards to then generating my own ePub
content, for possible software documentation, tutorial material, etc., still
want to try find sort of guidelines for rendering meaningful ePub content,
with tables of contents, etc. as well - one day...<smile>

A: For free and to be used as is software, Adobe digital editions version
2 works well with the screenreaders and you could also register and use it
to open your drm protected .acsm files and download epub purchases from
e.g. Kalahari.com, where the kalahari EReader is not accessible.
I was told it also works for un DRM protected files with braille reading
via the screen readers.
Kurzweil 1000 only from version 13.02 also works very well for reading
epub files, as you have all the bells and whistles and you can save in
other formats, but you can't read drm protected files with it and it's of
course not free.
Also, while have quite successfully/comfortably used the epubBud.com
website to thus far convert various other formats into ePub documents,
what's the best bit of offline software to use on the windows PC itself?
Thoughts? Suggestions?
A: If you have relevant Calibre plug ins installed and enabled the full
calibre on your pc, the command line syntax to convert is:
Ebook-convert filename.epub newfilename.newextention
Where the new filename and new extention is what you wish and with no
spaces, commas brackets etc. in the file names.
The main calibre program is not accessible via screen readers.
