what OS are you running on? windows xpsp3-windows7-10?
it sounds like the error I got when I tried 
running a dotnet application without dotnet 
installed, but of course in your case, that's not 
so, because previous versions of the game did work on your system.
I'm sorry, I wish I could be more helpful.
